Still Life

of some very fluid objects...

Compared to the ride to Beaver Island, during which I didn't quite shiver during what should've been a welcomed and uncharateristic cool spell, the ride back to the mainline was idyllic. I sat outside, not needing the extra layers for the most part, and proceeded to use up the last of my memory on shots of a fire hose and valve. At the time, I figured I'd prefer 1 of the 2 others, but I ended up liking this one the best, despite a slight weakness of composition (cropping the hook a little---too focused on centering the valve in the frame, I guess.)

It's been modified some. First I lightened up the valve, which was underexposed (which considering that I shot it with a +1.3ev compensation is not altogether surprising); then I pushed the hue intensity to get the red color back. The picture is scaled for the web (512 from 2448 pixels wide) but otherwise uncropped.

shutter 1/96s, apeture f/5.1, exposure bias _1.3, iso sensitivity 50, focal length 6.10 (all my pictures seem to be 6.10mm. I guess I need an slr to get some other number in there.) Shot with a nikon coolpix 8400 in fine/.jpg mode. File originally created 13jul05
