Annual Poppy
Or, That's Nice, but Where did You Come From?
I have vague memories of trying to plant bachelors buttons, or buying some, or something, so they didn't come as a total surprise. But I was completely mystified when this reddish orange poppy---I assume it's a California poppy---showed up in my seed planting bed. It's a mystery, but a delightful one. Not being an expert, I never really know, when I plant something, whether it will do well or poorly, or survive at all. Last year, I spent a lot of time with the Rodale Press books on pests and diseases, since identifying the problems is half the battle. But, for me, gardening is still a lot more about luck than skill. I hope you've enjoyed this site. My narcissi are putting up little green spikes, and the hollyhock I planted last year has been growing green (yes, really!) leaves all winter, so as things bloom, I plan(t)o update the site. Please feel free to email me at sylvus@rejiquar.com. I'd love to hear from you.
