2006 Garden

Year of the Groundhog.

Last year was bad enough, but this year, I have not one but two groundhogs. Plus their offspring, I assume. If they only ate false sunflowers, wood sorrel and creeping charlie, I wouldn't care.

Striptease hosta. Love those subtle stripes!

But they don't. So there isn't much going on in my garden, because these members of the squirrel family are consuming it all. Given the vociferous quarrels the red squirrels (which are dumb enough to run into an unbaited live trap) have been conducting, I'm thinking their ranks need to be thinned a trifle too.

Too bad I have no interest in eating these things.

Anyway.

Not technically my garden, but a view of my neighbor's garden from it. Posted 12jun.

Dramatic, purple, and resistant to groundhogs. How could I not love bearded iris. Posted 24may.

I have three tree peonies: pink, pink and white striped, and white. The first two were done in by abundant rain, but the last to bloom was lovely. Posted 23may.

One of my favorite harbingers of spring. Posted 07apr. (N.b. images in this subindex are in chronological order, rather than the latest up top.)
