Rhododendron
Pretty Purple at Nichols Arboretum

The peonies are overwhelming, and I had a hard time just picking one shot. The rhodies were a bit past their peak, but I liked this shot, which I'm basically using as a test for SiteWorks, the database that holds my web pages.

Probably should've lightened it a little. C'est la vie.

I really liked this image when I first took it, but reflection revealed that the composition—that is, that tree trunk, cutting the image in half—could have been better. I suspect part of the problem is that was the only angle for which I was really happy with the light, and not being Ansel Adams, I wasn't willing to hang around for several hours till the sun shifted.

But as my own rhododendrons are currently blooming (they're pink and white, and not very exciting) this piece seems apropos.
