I don't really know when I made this piece. It's later, because it was made in color, on bone...I suppose if I tracked down my old jury slides, I might be able to date it more accurately—not necessarily because I took a jury of this particular item, (though I do know I have—or should have!—slides of similar work) but because once I started doing metal, I pretty much dropped the scrim.
Best guess? Late 80s to early 90s.
Bone, acrylic pigment, india ink, gold-filled findings. Etched, late 80s, early 90s? photographed 1/14/2010.
Pansies, if my two minutes of internet research is correct, are for remembrance; and thus popular for graves. I suppose that's appropriate, given how long it's been since I made this piece. —As it happens I'm quite fond of all the flowers in this family—violets, violas, and pansies, especially since they're relatively cold-hardy. Unfortunately, only the violets are perennial, and since I detest watering, and am often too cheap to buy annuals, these end up being a special treat for me;)
This lot of pictures was shot in 20120106. Here I'm using some scrapbook paper and an old journal purchased at an estate sale to try for a little more nostalgic mood. I used a shard of mirror to highlight the pendant, resulting in just a bit of (acceptable, in my opinion, at least!) hot spot.
Another version of the same shot. I like both of these, but this is sort of thing for which the lensbaby I've been coveting for 2–3 years now is really ideal. Someday...
