Red and Blue
makes lovely Ornaments, true

Of all the color combos I've tried for rotation of axis ornaments, transparent cobalt and striking transparent red stripes remain my favorite. Here are some 2005 ornaments featuring this color combination.

ornament, 2005, borosilicate.

Rotation of axis, as I've explained before, is done by striping a point, that is, a tube with ends pulled to a thinner diameter for handles, longitudinally; then twisting the stripes; then blowing the tube to a sphere, and popping a hole 90 degrees to the handles (one of which is typically been removed by this point). One then attaches a third handle at right angles, removes the second, and then converts the last handle to a loop for hanging. In the montage technique, one keeps going, attaching a fourth handle 90 degrees to the third, twisting the stripes again, and so forth. To be perfectly honest, I can't tell for certain whether this is a true montage, but at the very least the stripes were twisted in opposite directions, which is why, when you look at the reflection, you see those psychadelic zigzags in the stripes.

Anyway, true montage is time-consuming, but very cool.

This ornament is awfully heavy on the red. So, come to think of it, when I say red and blue stripes are my favorites, I mean in equal amounts, though this related post illustrates a little bit of the reason why I sometimes have trouble with something so seemingly simple...

Not just equal amounts of color, but specifically thin alternating blue and red stripes. (But what's really embarressing is that, in my memory at least, my ornaments of this type from 2004 were so much better.) Well, at least the hanging loops seem to be improving a little.
